Weekly Highlights - 4/11/06

• Rapid raise doors being installed to V-bottom hallway.
• Air locks expected to be completed by 4/22/06
• Communication grid - designed to ensure no one get left behind (re: Q Squared messages).
• Work on air handling system beginning 4/12/06.
• Condensed Q^2 communications message developed will be put on employee paycheck envelopes and made into posters.
• "Welcome" & "Thank You" posters will be hung in plant entry way.
• E-bulletin board is hung, but not yet connected to network. Should be operational by 4/22/06.
• E-board to communicate Q^2, S.H.E., and 6 Sigma information, Facility KPI's - such as total production, OSP, plant water usage, etc. New employees will be announced on the board, as well as customer visits / audits. Discussed possible "classified ad" section too.
• Ken will be taking all three shifts on Q2 audits the week of April 19, 2006.

Q Squared Pancake Breakfast Meetings

Our Q2 lunch meetings took a different twist (or should I say flip) this time. The Q2 team treated employees to a delicious pancake breakfast featuring plain and blueberry pancakes, bacon, sausage, orange juice, milk and some great locally produced maple syrup (thanks Paul Aikin). Many good ideas were brought up and discussed at these meetings. A common opportunity for improvement regarding technical training of the operations group was mentioned at all three meetings. The fact that much of the manufacturing equipment PLC controlled new operators do not have the need to make manual adjustments – and thus may not know the intricacies behind the equipment. The technical training (a.k.a. “DMV U”, like PSU or dare I say OSU) would provide greater knowledge to our employees, helping them to have a better in depth understanding of each unit of operation.

Weekly Meetings - Striving to achieve operational excellence

On September 13, 2006 employee meetings were held in the South conference room. The topic of discussion was one of our core Q2 messages; Striving to achieve operational excellence. These were some of the best meetings I have been to – a lot of good discussions took place. Individuals shared their ideas on what operational excellence means to them. We talked about many examples of operational excellence. Suggestions for continual improvement were made – and will be followed up. When everyone works together – great things happen!

Striving to achieve operational excellence.

This is one of our core Q2 objectives. What does it really mean? In order to secure our continued success DMV has to maintain its production efficiencies and continually improve. How will we accomplish this? By using our resources (people, processes, equipment, systems) in such a way as to consistently produce top quality products the first time, every time. Who is involved? Everyone. Everyone needs to know how to do their job – then have the pride and determination to do it right – every time. Everyone needs to look at their jobs, (the work they do, the equipment & systems they use on a daily basis) for Ideas for improvement. These improvement ideas are necessary to achieve operational excellence.
