First Round of Internal Q2 Audits

All four sections of the facility have been audited by internal Q2 Auditors. While the scores for each section are quite low, the audits give us valuable information on areas that need to be improved.

Every 3 weeks two internal auditors inspect a section (1/4) of the facility. This is in accordance to our audit procedure QAPR052. The complete facility is inspected each quarter. Areas for improvement are noted, and corrective action plans are set. Follow up on corrective actions are made the next time the area is inspected.

What can you do? Your actions can have a big impact on these audits. Housekeeping and GMP's are a big part of the inspection. Please keep your work areas clean. Also you can make your supervisor aware of any problems that you see - either to the physical structure or to a process or a way of working that can be improved (safer, better quality, or more efficient).

You do make a difference and remember "Everything depends on our employees".

Q Squared Pancake Breakfast Meetings

Our Q2 lunch meetings took a different twist (or should I say flip) this time. The Q2 team treated employees to a delicious pancake breakfast featuring plain and blueberry pancakes, bacon, sausage, orange juice, milk and some great locally produced maple syrup (thanks Paul Aikin). Many good ideas were brought up and discussed at these meetings. A common opportunity for improvement regarding technical training of the operations group was mentioned at all three meetings. The fact that much of the manufacturing equipment PLC controlled new operators do not have the need to make manual adjustments – and thus may not know the intricacies behind the equipment. The technical training (a.k.a. “DMV U”, like PSU or dare I say OSU) would provide greater knowledge to our employees, helping them to have a better in depth understanding of each unit of operation.

Weekly Meetings - Striving to achieve operational excellence

On September 13, 2006 employee meetings were held in the South conference room. The topic of discussion was one of our core Q2 messages; Striving to achieve operational excellence. These were some of the best meetings I have been to – a lot of good discussions took place. Individuals shared their ideas on what operational excellence means to them. We talked about many examples of operational excellence. Suggestions for continual improvement were made – and will be followed up. When everyone works together – great things happen!

Striving to achieve operational excellence.

This is one of our core Q2 objectives. What does it really mean? In order to secure our continued success DMV has to maintain its production efficiencies and continually improve. How will we accomplish this? By using our resources (people, processes, equipment, systems) in such a way as to consistently produce top quality products the first time, every time. Who is involved? Everyone. Everyone needs to know how to do their job – then have the pride and determination to do it right – every time. Everyone needs to look at their jobs, (the work they do, the equipment & systems they use on a daily basis) for Ideas for improvement. These improvement ideas are necessary to achieve operational excellence.
